Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

Well I currently have several hundred feet of that so I don't need it. You may find someone who wants it or take it to a local scrap yard. It is probbly about 1/8 " thick so would only go as shredder which the current price is $0.10 per lb.

I'm getting close to finishing my quilt blocks:

How does the swap work, Tallyho? Will we all bring the blocks to your table, and you'll sort them into piles that we pick up? I know it's gonna be a very busy, frantic swap, and as I recall, we didn't even have time for the potluck in spring! LOL. So let's plan the process now, and hopefully you won't end up with 72 squares!

Hey Cath! Do you have pints of the rasp/nect and the butterscotch peach? If so please put me down for one of each!

OMG! They look awesome!
I think we'll meet at my set-up and drop them all into a bag. Each of us will pull out the number of blocks we put in. Of course if you draw your own you can keep it or pull another. Sound OK? Of course at the next swap in April, we'll have to show off a finished product, right? Quilt, runner, placemats, potholders...

I have you down for a pint of rasp/nect and I will be making more butterscotch peach (unless something big comes up) so I'll put you down for one of those, too! Thanks!

Would there be any interest in organic pear butters/jam?
May also make some chutneys out of the tomatillos and tomatoes etc in my garden. I just found the joy of canning

I also made some spiced honey and bourbon pears that can be used for cocktails, dessert garnishes or just plain eating. I'm experimenting with how to get the most fruit in as I possibly can. We have four pear trees so I've got them coming out of my ears!

rant...rant...whine whine...when will I learn:he

I found this lady on cl...who wanted a silkie and a couple of other chickens for herself and her grandaughter. We agreed to split an order and shipping costs. She deliberated for days (As did I) and finally decided she wanted an EE, a redstar, and a silkie... I got five bantams. She got her three. I paid the whole order. This was JULY 12. The order arrival date was around September first. She had at least four weeks in which she could have changed her mind. They would have charged us a fee...but it could have been done. This chicks arrived. Her Mom passed away. I felt really bad. I agreed to keep them a few days while she was on the coast taking care of arrangements...no big deal. She e-mails me this today...

"Hi, Julie,
I'd like to get the chick(s) Tuesday or Wed. am, I can meet you in town. Which one is the Market of Choice ? Address?

I am having a problem with getting the larger hens because I am so taken with having a Pet Chicken. I want to have a house pet. Are either of the big chicks so adorable you would like to keep them, or maybe trade for a bantam?

I know I want the Silkie, my housechicken, and I can't wait! So let me know what you think. And if you'd like to resell them, I'm ok with that. How much $$ do I owe you?"

My initial gut response was not very nice. I accidentally sent part of it to her and she said:

"My situation changed. When I ordered the chicks in July, I wasn't sure by Sept., that I'd stay in this house or have to move to an apartment.

Moving. To an apartment. Knew I wanted a housechicken, the Silkie, but I just can't have 2 full-sized chickens, tho' I sure wish I could.
Let me know where I can meet you at 6 am Tuesday."
Could she have decided what she wanted BEFORE she ordered the chickens? Could she have let me know three weeks ago? I sent her a picture of the chicks to her sell phone...hopefully she will think they are so cute she can't live without them. I am sending her an e-mail telling her that we agreed that she paid half the shipping cost and the cost of what she ordered. If she wants only wants the silkie she will need to get a friend for her, but she still owes me what she agreed to. Hopefully she will live up to her end, because there is no way I could force her to. So I may have to find homes for two to three chicks. The silky shouldn't be a problem, but Wilco has Sex link and EE at the store now. It isn't like they are rare. Then I would have to find homes for two chicks....

Why can't people just do what they agreed to? I would have ordered anyway and had to find homes. But I would have ordered bantams, which I think would have been easier to rehome. Should I let her just take the one silkie or sell them all. I hate to have the girl by herself, but no one is going to pay what she owes me for them.

Thanks, Julie
