Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

What are they crossed with? I have a very small D'Uccle hen that I was thinking of putting her with one of my seramas. I have a serama roo that is driving his hen crazy. She needs a rest.

So I was thinking if I could get them to get a long, maybe. I'll have to wait and see.

My porcelain D'Uccle is crossed with a Cochin. I wasn't totally sure the eggs would be fertile (she's kinda shy) but after tonight I know for a fact at least some are. I saw feet kicking in at least two of them just a little bit ago when I went to check for pips. It was so cool I almost forgot that I needed to put them back! I wasn't able to check them all because the big ol' Buff Orpington sitting on the nest wasn't very accommodating with my need to feel around under her bum no matter how much I sweet talked her.

I hope yours is going better than mine Alexis! Came home from dropping my son at school to find the two newest babies kicked out of the nest! One looked like the momma ate yolk sac

I don't think that one is going to make it though I'm trying. The other one looked fine, just not up and about yet. I know that nature has a way of weeding out the weak but I have just never experienced this with a broody hen. Makes me angry

and sad at the same time

Not a chicken day, but I drove to the Willamette Valley yesterday and visited with a friend from Homesteading Today. I'm trying to talk her into coming to the Swap. She cans and raises rabbits and Courtinix quail. If she brings bunnies to the swap, is there any chance of selling them there? Even if not, she will fit into our group really well.

I came home with a new (new to me) 3 hole rabbit cage, 2 New Zealand X American Sable does, a show bred Californian Buck and a Californian doe.

The farm supply store that sells American made wire didn't have any rabbit cage wire, so I am still short of cages.

I stopped at Winco for bulk bins and to see if there was any good sale on meat. But my son called me before I got to the market, saying "Don't buy any meat!". Darn it, my freezer just failed big time, shorting out the electricity if it is plugged in. Fortunately, everything got crammed into my son's freezer, with a board braced against the door to keep it closed.

My heart really sank when he said the freezer had failed because we'd just finished butchering 20 ducks. My first thought was all that work melted into a puddle of ruined meat.

Now I have to stop buying and start eating. The good news is that I am really good at the eating business.

There will be more than one person bringing rabbits, and the more that bring rabbits, the more people I will tell that are looking for rabbits! I think she's got a decent chance
