If at all possible, can we keep it in later October? Between the Stevenson, WA show, and the rabbit shows at the beginning of October that Rhonda and her son are committed to, it is a very tight squeeze in early October for us, and we always love coming to the swaps.

Maybe next year I should make some chicken holloween costumes for kiddos if anyone's interested. Maybe some rooster/hen costumes, a couple of baby "eggs", etc... hmmm

Also... I wanted to add some more information about what we might be able to bring.... Can't sleep anyway.

Keep in mind we raise and cull all our birds with health, productivity and friendliness in mind. We do not keep especially flighty hens (and aggressive roos are NOT tolerated) in any of the breeding pens.

Dominique Hatching Eggs, Chicks.
>> An excellent dual purpose, friendly, good foraging breed. Fantastic for those looking to be more self-sustainable, our Doms have better feed conversion for eggs and meat. We have had a few nice birds but this is still very much a project line.

Ameraucana Hatching Eggs, Chicks, SQ lines.
>> These chicks will be a very nice black rooster over some nice black hens and a few very nice blue pullets. All are actual Americaunas, laying bright blue eggs.

Orpington Hatching Eggs, BBS SQ lines.
>> A VERY dark Blue rooster over some black, blue and splash hens. We also have a young blue cockerel that may get his own small pen of ladies. Very big, beautiful birds, very calm and sweet and an excellent backyard bird or for showman.

Marans Hatching Eggs, Wheaten and Blue Wheaten.
>> Very limited numbers. We are down to just one purebred Marans hen, so we will probably only be able to bring 6-8 eggs from her.


Japanese Hatching Eggs, Chicks. Blues and Blacks.
>> From Rhonda's son's breeding animals. SQ Blue rooster over SQ black hens, will also have other color combinations (not show quality). Japanese have been bred for centuries to be very sweet. They are AWESOME kid 4H birds. Very calm, need very little handling to tame down. Super light weight yet vigorous and healthy.

Bantam Rose Comb Rhode Island Red Hatching Eggs, Chicks, from show lines.
>> These birds are very sweet and great with the kids as well. Also, the rose comb is a bit more cold hardy than the single comb and still very cute. These are true quality dark dark birds, very stunning and sweet.

Mixed bantams - RC RIR, Mille Fleur Cochin, Americauna, Japanese in the pen, hatching eggs and maybe chicks.
>> From my nieces' mixed flock of bantams. You will get wonderful color and form combinations!

75% Ameraucana EE Hatching Eggs, Chicks. Sex-Linked!*
>> This is a second generation of blue cuckoo easter eggers. Boys will be barred, females solid. 50% blue, 50% black, the Americauna in these birds are show quality animals, true Americauna lines. We are also careful about culling for health and productivity, so these should all be good producing birds with great personalities.

75% Marans Hatching Eggs, possibly some Chicks.
>> These have been crossed out for better production, but will still have much darker than average eggs. 1/4 Australorp - the first generation females are big, beautiful and productive. First generation birds have dark brown eggs with very dark chocolate spots, we are expecting more spots from the 2nd generation and maybe 20% of the egg in dark dark brown. The two huge roosters we had at the fall swap (blue wheaten-ish) were from this cross.

2nd Generation "Walrus" Hatching Eggs, Chicks. 75% SQ Orpington. Sex-Linked!*
>> Very healthy, fast growing and big birds. Excellent backyard birds, yard ornaments, good egg and meat bird.

Black Sex-Link Hatching Eggs, possibly some Chicks.
>> Dominique X Rhode Island Red crosses. Cold hardy, good foragers, excellent producers and good meat birds! A great dual purpose cross.

I probably could... hmmm... We will talk about it this winter when things aren't so crazy hectic in my life (I hope!) and I can go pick up the fabric and then be able to still find the measurements

The swap was awesome, wanted to say thank you to everyone for their kindness and helpfulness. Thank you to those who took my edible and non edible birds..lol
the cheesecake, pesto, mushrooms, and marinara sauce have been great. I also got a bourbon red tom - that is a very nice addition to the farm.
So- speaking of turkeys. I have been doing some restructuring on my farm. I am keeping 2 of my turkey hens to breed with the new tom-- so have less turkeys for sell for Thanksgiving and hope to have some poults in the spring. I do have 1 or 2 of my toms available for this Thanksgiving...I wanted to make sure they would make it to market weight before I commited to selling them. they will be sold as processed, fresh. pm me if interested as I have a hard time keeping up with the forum this time of year.

By Request -
Heritage meat cockerel chicks, if we aren't sold out - $0.75ea, perfect for pastured poultry and backyard programs. The fastest maturing heritage breed, get the tenderness of a young bird with the flavor of a real chicken.

Capons, Dominique, Walrus and Sex-Links (Dominique cross), *possibly* Jersey Giants. Grow meat birds in town! Capons do not crow, can be grown longer and stay tender, make great adoptive mothers for chicks, and can be housed with hens. All these breeds will make excellent capons, with good feed conversion and rate of growth. We need to know at least 3 months in advance if you want these capons! They need time to incubate, hatch, grow to caponizing size (about 8 weeks) and then have some recovery time before the swap.

Hi guys, I need a home made incubator for a 4-H demo. Anyone ever attemp to make one? If you live close to Portland I'll come get it. I need it for a meeting on 11/13 and I'll get it back to you ASAP.

BTW, the Fall swap was a blast... chicken people are the best! Can't wait for the spring swap!
