Tam'ra of Rainbow Vortex :
On the subject of future swaps, I would like to poll ya'll:
How far south would you travel for a swap? (name cities, please, NOT miles, unless you want to tell us all where you live!)
What month would be best for a 3rd Oregon Poultry Swap? (I hope to avoid conflicts with other northern events I can't go to)
See, I am down at the southern border of the state and all the other swaps are a MINUMUM of a 4 hour drive for me, each way. Which means overnighting with poultry. It also means uprooting at least half the family since I don't travel alone.
If there was ONE closer by, I would be okay with that, but everybody else seems to think the state goes no farther south than Eugene. (Not just here, mind you, Southern Oregon is always overlooked!)
So since nobody else is doing it, I am CONSIDERING trying to organize a Southern Swap, probably in Medford or better yet (for me) in Central Point (just a bit north of Medford) maybe at the Jackson Co. fairgrounds (5 miles from my house is WAY better than 400!) Not that I am trying to be selfish; I want everyone to be able to come. I just figure if I am the one organizing, I should get to pick the place.
So what do you guys think? If I organize it, will people come? I have only ever been to one swap before and have never tried to organize an event before, so I am in new territory here.
I think this is a great idea. We've been trying to get someone to pick up the ball for the southern people for quite some time now but no one was willing or able to put in the time (it takes a lot!!!) to make it happen. As far as month, can't really help you there. You could do a summer one since a lot of us in the valley do not go to the one in Redmond. Just an idea....definitely stay away from winter though lol]
Oh and yeah, not selfish at all lol...the fall swap is only 5 minutes from my house
Honestly, there is no way I could do it if it wasn't especially the way it has grown.
