Oregon

I sold 5 chicks and now have 4 (that I'm keeping) that will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. Little Vera the EE was SOLID black at a day old is now feathering out dark bark brown and black partridge along the back and wings, while the chest is coming in sort of a gold . Has anyone ever had a solid black EE chick? What did they end up looking like? I know it looks like she had some white under belly fluff but, she did not have this the first 1.5 weeks. The rest of the crew is a BCM, Welsummer and Barnevelder.

The Roo with the lavenders has the better tail, but the roo with the silver laced hen's has better lacing. All of these bird's are from good blood line but were not being bred in the correct direction. I plan to fix that. The lavender hen's have a damaged rose comb and a single comb. The silver hen's were underweight when I got them. None of them are laying well, so this is going to take a bit.

Now. The silver laced chick's in the picture are now 1 week old. I don't want to get my hopes up but they are already showing signs of lacing in their first feathers. The silver laced is what we plan to have as a staple bird on our farm. In the incubator I have 1 doz silver laced, 9 Belgian Malines (so freaking rad. Can't believe I got some.), and 8 or so more split's.

Wow! Those are all exciting prospects, I can't wait to see them when they've all feathered out :) Best Wishes on your hatching eggs !

Hi all! Figured I’d try the Oregon thread out :) I’m pretty new to the forum. I’ve had chickens in and off since showing them in 4H *many* years ago. Since we’re not moving anytime soon with Covid, we went on a chick splurge and started with 28 chicks who are 7 weeks old and have 17 coming on Friday 😳😂 We have 5 acres down near Eugene, and we’re finally building a proper chicken pen, so we’ve been enjoying it!

Wow! Diving in deep are we? That's a lot of chick's! Welcome. I'm not far from you, in Cheshire.
