I ended up with only 5 out of 12 being hens last time .... this time I paid the crazy price to "gauruntee" hens ..thats CRAZY to pay so much !!! 2 Buff Silkies, and 2 Mille Fluer D'Uccle ........
Im adding 3 Buff Orps too the big girls flock , they will be new for me ......... My dog-run-turned-hen-run is working out great for the banties, need to re- wire the big girls run this spring ........

I would be scared of a turkey chasing me across the yard , but they ARE pretty to look at !!! GOOD LUCK Tallyho !!!

Good morning! So glad the holidays are over & everything will get back to the ol' routine. Anyone starting to plan their gardens yet? I've requested some seed catalogs & I'm thinking about where best to dig up the dirt. This summer I would like to teach myself to can. How about you?

Hello fellow Oregonians! Yes geeber, I am just starting to think about the spring and what I will do with the flowers and changes I will do for the front of our home's landscaping. I was thinking of having another raised bed in the back yard for veggies--we have one for our raspberries now. My problem is I am not great at growing veggies (flowers do pretty well) and am wondering which ones to try. I do grow one or two tomato plants each year and they do OK. I have tried zucchini but even the zucchini didn't do well the last year.

Plenty of sun in the back so I know it has to be my fault. Arggh. I am going to have lovely fertilizer

so perhaps that will make a difference. Anyway I wish you all a great new year!

Last year was really BAD for growing ........ I am getting new roses , they do very well !! My tomatoes and zucchini did poorly last year ! I will try all sorts of things ....peas and beans , wish I cold grow root veggies, but we live on ROCK, whick makes little rocks no matter how much dirt you add !!! I just got 5 seed catalogs in the last 3 days of mail !!! OH MY !!

Nah, I don't tend to plan very much ahead of time. I'm more of a "get an idea and just do it" type of person. Once I get something in my head, that's it. I'm nuts until it's done. Last year though I actually planned a garden, it rained so much for so long I didn't get the garden planted until really late, and didn't hardly get anything out of it.

My garden was pretty fruitful last year, although i have had MANY better years. You cant expect much with such a short "summer" season. Alot of plants that were planted in mid-spring (like mine) got stunted when it rained for like 2 weeks, and they all just shot into bloom. Oh well, cant do well every year, then we would have nothing to learn from..

We have too much shade. We plant veggies anyway but we are constantly fighting the sunlight issue. Last year we got 3 huge 25 year old blueberry bushes. Can't wait to see the tonnage production this year!

I would love to have some raised beds but my carpentry skills are lacking. So I think I'll be putting up some little landscape fencing to keep the dogs out. I dont anything is going to keep the chickens out. :0 But I'm okay w/ that.

Would like to plant a small amount of some sort of grain. Just for funsies. Tomatoes, zuccinis, pumpkins, carrots, radishes, beans, peas.... what else... the list goes on.

Of course it's all daydreaming now. What w/ the frozen yard. This morning our girls are huddled under the heat lamp. Brrrrrrr. I think they are getting tired of the cold.
