Hope it's OK to post this here......

When I decided to get Ameraucanas last year I came on this site and found two great sources fairly close to home. Now that I'm looking into goats I'm having no luck finding breeders in my area at all lol. So I thought what the heck, I'll ask my chicken buddies

It can't hurt to try (unless it's a no no, lol). My friend and I are totally new to this idea so any info would be great. I've joined Backyardherds and feel more confused than ever, and can't seem to locate where I'd find local breeders on the site lol. I think I'm looking for Pygmy Nubian's. Or is that dreaming to want both breeds in one? We are allowed two miniature livestock in our neighborhood. We are wanting the goats milk for Kefir, cheese and table use. Thanks so much for any help. I hope to be ready for them by next year. Too many huge projects needing to be done in the yard to make space to consider this year. But my friend may be ready sooner.

Ducks! never really thought about that. How long to grow out a meat duck? What type of feed do you use? Are there advantages to duck over chicken?

I butcher Pekin at 8 weeks and get a dressed carcass that is a hair under 5 pounds. The Appleyards take about 2 weeks longer to reach butchering size, but they are leaner.

Duck tastes different than chicken. Duck is all dark meat. It's worth a lot more, too. You won't find duck on sale in the market for 99 cents a pound.

The egg laying duck breeds lay more eggs than a chicken does.

There have been no leg problems or heart issues with my ducks.

I like the clownish personalities of the ducks better.

Ducks, however, love mud, so they can be messy when they play. They are more work to pluck. It's harder to kill them because it is way too easy to get attached to them.

My dog just ate a VERY rotten goose egg! Oh, GAWD! The SMELL is TERRIBE! GAG. GAG. WRETCH.

I mixed some listerine with water and dumped it into his mouth. Gag again. If he's going to throw up, he better do it OUTSIDE!

Ugh. This dog is disgustingg.

nasty! I don't care what they say about dog tongues being clean. I'm not buying it. My friends dog has been known to eat ANY kind of droppings she can possibly get her chompers on.

He's been known to eat human poo. I don't know which is worse... Bum poo he found in a park, my dh's friends poo in the woods hiking, or a rotten egg?

And a new poll is born! Weigh in, folks! Which would YOU rather YOUR dog ate, if you HAD to choose one of the three?

LOL! I'm so glad you said it first! I didn't want to come out and say it. But yes, she eats human poo! We discovered this on a shred hunting trip. Remmy the poo eatin dog. Don't let a dog lick your hand ever again.

Give your dog hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting that is what the vets use.

My wife's cousin had a portapottie in hunting camp made from a 5 gallon bucket and a toilet seat... the camp dog would eat the floaters every morning after everyone did their duty... the best part was the owner of the dog was oblivious to this and would regularly let his dog lick his face... every morning.

Hydrogen Peroxide dose for inducing vomiting in dogs = 1cc / pound of dog, up to 1/3 cup. It has to be fresh, opened in the last 6 months or so. Turkey baster works good for getting it down. If they don't vomit within 20 minutes or so, repeat the same dose. If they don't vomit with the 2nd dose, they probably won't puke with peroxide, and should be taken to the vet for a different medication. (btw, vets don't usually USE peroxide, but will tell people to do that at home, since people can't get the medication the vets use to induce vomiting, and NEVER use ipecac in dogs, it's VERY VERY bad for them, and won't make them puke anyway).
