Ok, so I want blue eggs (already planning some true Aracaunas, eggs in August) but considering some creme legbars, like the autosexing idea. Can any of you give me some pros cons on them as layers? or just pretty? how about the Aracaunas? I'm fine with just pretty buuut that means a couple not a lot, lol
Thanks All for advice and personal experience.

I have 1 bantam Araucana hen and I love her! Watching her run across my yard is so comical! Her eggs are more of a green in my eyes but they are fun for the kids and people we give eggs to. Everyone loves blue eggs! I have the number of a lady in Grand Ronde that has a flock of true araucanas though they are all tuftless (no lethal hatch) and AOV colors because she lets them all run together. She has had araucana chickens for like 20+ years if I remember right.... She sells hatching eggs for a pretty good price. If you decide you want to hatch some I can give you her email.

I have a white cochin I would be willing to part with. Daphne is 14 to 18 months old and has spent more time broody than not. She has never hatched eggs. I bought some hatching eggs one time from Coverleaf Farms but do to nest box squables and my own inexperience none hatched. I don't believe that was her fault at all. She is laying right now, but the last time she was laying it lasted about 2 1/2 weeks and she was broody again. I bought her from some friends in Battleground WA as a pullet and believe she is feed store hatchery stock. she has a toe that is turned in. She got it broke before I ever got her but it doesn't hurt her she just looks a little piegon toed. I am in PDX, so if interested let me know. I'd like to get $10.00 for her.

Thanks,

Marty

True Aruacanas have ear tufts - lack of them is a DQ in the show ring. However, since they are a lethal gene, breeding can be problematic. I'm sticking to Ameraucanas, for my blue eggs!

Does OR schedule swaps anymore?

Hi, Cloverleaf! How's the quilt?

I love it! It's on my bed right now! LOL

Yeah, there's a swap down in Brownsville the first Saturday in August, the one in Corvallis the 3rd weekend in October, and we'll have one up here in Canby next Spring.
