Just post what breeds you are looking for on here, there are lots of breeders in Oregon. Shows are good but may also not have the breeds you are interested in. You could talk to people at the shows and maybe get some contacts. If you want chicks or hatching eggs, breeders from out of state will often mail them to you just as the hatcheries do. I just got in a shipment of quality Delaware chicks from a breeder in Missouri and they arrived happy and healthy.Would I have to go to local shows to start our flock? I really do not want to get hatchery chicks. We will be moving near Redmond in June. Everything is already set up, just need to find the birds.![]()
They are great fun! DH, myself and my nephew will be selling honey among other things, please stop in and say Hello!

I never have gone to a show or "swap". So that would be interesting and a learning experience for my kids and I. We are interested in Black Orpingtons.
I am still in Florida. My family and I will be near Redmond towards the end of June. Waiting for my girls to finish up this school year and then we are heading west. We have a place set up and waiting. Will there be anything going on, show wise in that area in July? How do I look up information for these events?
Thanks! I really appreciate the info and response. We like going to our county fairs down here and checking out the animals and seeing the kids so proud of their animals.Ok, That time of year is when all the county fairs are going on. Some sell birds from there. But you could go to those and see birds you like and find out who is breeding them and get contact info. We went to our county fair last summer and got to talk to lots of great kids raising their show birds.

What a great present!I'm new to this site, and very glad to find OR. I found WA and it was nice but OR is home and everyone is closer. My mother raised chickens and I've known many others who have and I've always helped, but I've never actually had my own My granddaughter and her family got me 4 chicks and a nice coop for Mothers Day and my 70th birthday gift. That brought it up and put the coop together yesterday. I LOVE THE CHICKS AND THE COOP!!! I feel that I "old and new" at this. I've always loved chickens and other them belonging to me taken care of them. They are only about 3 weeks and have awhile before moving them out to their coop. That's a good thing because I want to get some changes done to the coop before setting them out .
