Oregon

Here is a photo of the basic design of our nesting boxes: those boxes are amazing. I can see a few things I want to try based on your info. I think I need a better cushioning system. I'm getting cracked eggs. Saaaad when it's your first eggs. I think I may have some of the spongy mesh. And I am working on hubby to put more of a bar in front of the entrance. And the curtain. Hmmm intriguing.

Thanks!! Good suggestions. Anyone else?

Hi!

Here is a little video of Buddy, one of our Easter Eggers, putting her chicks to bed in the nesting boxes. The chicks can't get up into the nesting boxes when they are just hatched, but within a few weeks they can make the leap.

PHOTO CALL!
Say... Everyone who has time... Can we talk nest boxes?

Show me yours? I'd love to see what you guys use. So far (and I know they're new to this) I've had an egg in the run, one in the coop tonight and 3 in the boxes. So I'm wondering if mine are up to snuff or could be better.

So can you all post pics or dimensions etc so we can have a nest box talk!
Thanks!!

I have actually modified them, I cut one side off so chicks can get into the nest with a broody. I have the open side toward wall and about 3 inches away from the wall. I currently have a broody setting on eggs that would not accept the broody tractor, so that is when I just cut the side off each one and gonna let her hatch out in the main coop. She is a veteran broody and top girl, so not worried about the chicks safety with the other birds.
