Oregon

I'm located in Salem. Does anybody know of a store (grocery, or farm stand) that would be willing to give (either free or discounted) past its prime produce they can't sell? I'm interested in getting it for my chickens.

I used to work at Roths back when I was in highschool. Soo a long time ago. But they always had a few people who would come in for their box of " bunny food" etc. they pride themselves on being local. I'd give them a try.

Thanks I'll check with them! I've got 2 within a couple miles from my house :)

Hello,

My husband and I live in Beaverton my name is Karen my husband is Leonard as of yet we do not have any chickens, we have five cats and one dog and next Spring we will have bees.
After my husband finishes summer school this week we want to start building a coop. We would love to have 2-Rhode Island red's and 2- Leghorn and 2- Norwegian( my husband is 1/2 Norwegian) so he has to have Norwegian chickens. I told him that the last two breeds like to fly so we would have to cover the top of the coop.
When we are done building and ready for the chickens I will be back to ask where to find the chickens.

Best

Karen

Welcome! Also feel free to PM me if you have any questions about bees. We spent the whole weekend pulling honey supers off of our 100 + hives. (Hobby gone awry!!!)

Welcome! I sure do wish I knew more about keeping bees. I have toyed with the idea of putting hives in the pasture. I have heard that it is really expensive to upkeep. My fiance is scared to death of bees. (6'3" 280 lb. man running from a fly because he thought it was a bee.) But relented to having them way back on the very back fence, lol.

Hi,
If you get Italian bees they are more docile then the others unless the bees think you are after the little bees. We had a swarm show and stayed for awhile I would go stand by the tree and get close the the branch they were hanging out on and watch what was going n the bees would fly pass and I would stand still and not get bothered.

We have started to work on the coop we are going to use part of our tool shed that we never use and give them a nice run for them to play in. When all finish I will post pictures of the coop and chickens.

Bantychicknluv, I saw your photo in the 4-H hall today. I saw the pic of the Serama cockerel, turned to my wife and said I have seen this bird on BYC. Looked at the name on the card and it was your's. It is a real nice shot. I didn't see if you had any birds showing or not. Saw you at one point but you were in a conversation with people.

Oh no, did the guy bring in the virus? Do you know what it's called? That's why I don't let people come here I meet them. Does your friend have a email I can get a hold of her with? I hope you don't lose all your birds. So many nasty things chickens can get.
