Oregon

Hello everyone, I have a young Australorp rooster for sale. I am in the Boring area. He is 7/8 Australorp and 1/8 Silver-laced Wyandotte, very healthy and maturing fast. He is not friendly but he is tame and will eat out of your hand. He has already earned his keep, alerting everyone to a falcon hiding in the tree that not even my mature roo saw.

He was hatched 2/8 and is ready for his own girls. I can carry him around and handle him, but I wouldn't recommend him for small children. He has a strong urge to protect and always comes running to the rescue when he hears someone in distress. He would be a great flock sire for someone with free-range birds and who needs predator protection.

The second picture doesn't do him justice as he has his tail down because his father is staring at him, but you can see what he will look like. I can send more pics if you're interested!

Thanks! Gus is $10. Good home only!

I apologize in advance if my questions seem silly, but we are completely new to chickens and farm stores.

I have had a few people ask me if my chicks were vaccinated for Mareks. I have no clue. My adult daughter bought the chicks from Wilco and gave us a few of her extras. Do any of you know if Wilco uses a particular hatchery and if chicks are routinely vaccinated for Mareks here in Oregon?

I was going to contact Wilco but thought I would ask here first.

Thanks,
the mom (family account)

I think the only way to know is to ask Wilco. The person who does the chicks at my local Wilco is super friendly and helpful, but you need to have specific questions for her.

Hey everyone! I didn't know there was an Oregon thread, I'm hoping someone here can help. (Like, I'm internally quite frantic.) I'm looking for a really good bird vet. One that's capable of orthopedic surgery and repair on beaks. I'm willing to drive I just want to try to do as much as I can to lower the risk of entrusting her care to someone who isn't as good as their website makes them sound. Any good recommendations? I'm in Central Oregon, going to Portland is fine, but for her sake I'd like to keep the drive under 4 hours so I'll be able to do round trips in a day if I need to. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/893958/oregon-bird-vet-and-tell-me-i-have-hope-for-this-beak

I take it you have a hen who has what is known as Scissor Beak. I can't advise as to a bird vet in our area, but have a look at this page and see if it isn't something you can tackle yourself:

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!
