That's so sad! I gather that silkies are extra-special birds. They can't fly because they don't have wing feathers and their fuzz absorbs water like a sponge. It probably went to the bucket out of curiosity but got water logged and couldn't get out. So ... if you want to have open water containers for the goats and silkies in the same place, perhaps have more shallow buckets?

We have a bucket that our ducks love to hop up into for a little swim. As soon as that bucket is fresh, someone comes along for a splash. I'm amazed they can get in and out of it, but there is no stopping them now. We do have other pools for them to splash in, but this bucket is irresistible to them.

Here's the crazy part she was the best flyier out of everyone and she loved to do that's how we came up with the name bonzi for her sad say but I do wanna find a replacement my gf loved that bird and t had a heck of a personality now that bucket is history and got two smaller ones for the goats

Has anyone ever had one big coop for chickens and goats to share the same space?

My free range chicken hangs out with the horse and two goats. They all go in the stall to enjoy the shade the chicken will be laying right beside the goats and the horse standing right there. The goats lay down outside and the chicken will sun bath right beside her. She walks under and hangs out with the horse they graze together. The other day I was throwing some scratch out for her and the head goat gently but it's head on her and gave her a light budge, I couldn't believe how gentle she was! They went ahead and shared the scratch. I think the horse and goats help some in protecting the chicken from predators. That's free range tho not a run. They have a couple acres fenced and a barn.

I was going to go, but my one and only child is graduating high school this Saturday....decisions...decisions...hahaha, just kidding!
Well If I'd known it was going to be a thousand degrees in the shade I might have crashed your only childs graduation instead! :p
Oh boy, I felt so sorry for the chickens. I saw some really cute ones even if they looked unhappy. I ended up getting another bag of thistle seed. 20 lbs for what I've been paying for 7! Plus it was a nice drive and everyone was super friendly :) I hope your graduation was a blast! Proud moment! I think about half the people I went to school with barely graduated ( some who did shouldn't have ... ) or dropped out to attend homeschool and work. When I have my own kids they're going to school and thats that.
