I think I'm glad we got there before you did! I was already dissapointed that all the Americaunas had been spoken for. We ended up getting a Buff Orpington, a Black Austraulorp, a Rhode Island Red, and a Cuckoo Marans...which is a breed we weren't planning on getting, but I love the look of their chocolate colored eggs.

Did you go to Newberg? There were literally hundreds of chicks there, and only a few were spoken for at noon.

They pre sell many of the birds at the Newberg Wilco, and EEs are usually all pre sold. But we managed to get some anyway last spring because people don't always take all the birds they order, or are too slow to come pick them up. EEs were our dream birds, and when we didn't get them we got tons of others to console ourselves, then also picked up some scrap EEs, which was our first chicken math experience.

Marans were our other dream bird ... we only scooped up one rather sad looking Maran chick in the spring. We got 5 on Friday, so yay!!!

We pre-ordered our dream birds this time. So far we've only bought 5 extra on impulse. But the month has just started, so we'll have plenty of opportunity to do something silly while they are stocking chicks.

Hopefully you will finally be able to lay your hands on some dream birds! Seems to be the theme of the week!
My friend finally got her RIRs and a BR and I got my whites.
Last night I was reading something about an AussieWhite (BA dad over WL Mum) and I am wondering about maybe seeing how that combo works out. I am considering getting some fertile Trader Joes Leghorn eggs, so maybe next Spring I can give that combo a go, if we hatch out some WL pullets.

Since once you start with chickens, inevitably, more birds follow.

Example: I started with one hen and have since had, Ducks, Gesse, Turkeys, Guineas, Peafowl, Quail, Pheasants, Pigeons, and even an EMU.

If you want to hear some funny stories, I'm full of them, too.

We were at Newberg at around 10ish on Saturday morning. The only ones that were all reserved were the Americaunas. We could have waited until the shipment next week, but we decided to just get them all Saturday.

And here's a picture, just so you can see the cuteness. These are our first chickens ever!

they are last year's turkeys, and not in great shape. She wants me to take them and process them, so she has room for more chooks, but I just can't do it.
Like hitting an elderly person in the head with a hammer, to me.

Probably only missed each other by about a half hour!!!
We were the ding bats taking an hour to decide what kinds of chooks to get.
Guess it's lucky for us we weren't after the Americaunas!!!
