Do you think the skunk got in? Their so vulnerable when their little. I put mine in a rabbit cage up off the ground with the nest box in it and cover the bottom of the cage with hay. It's alway worked out well. That way the hen can take care of them. I now have ground squirrels getting in my coop and run so another worry.
Maybe they would send you some more eggs since only one hatched?
thanks sue, doesn't seem like anything got in but yet the chick was gone, too little to have gone too far. I imagine maybe a local cat may of gotten him, I know it wasn't my cats they are nice to the chickens and were sleeping in the barn at the time he went missing. But I know now what to do and It wont happen again that is for sure. I now have a gorgeous BlueJersey Rooster, I think he and my black hens will have blue and blacks, I would get a white hen but yikes afraid of how dirty she might get lol. Thanks for the condolenses guess I need a tougher skin, lol.
