Hi! I am already:
*the crazy lady with all those little kids
*the crazy lady who knits, crochets, and spins
*the crazy bunny lady (although I only have three!)
*the crazy geeky lady

So I am looking into adding crazy chicken lady to the list.
I started looking into chickens for egg production.I have done a lot of reading on the articles and breed recommendations here but I had to join to ask a few key questions. I'm looking forward to meeting chicken folks and maybe making some good local chicken contacts if anybody harkens from the Albany or Lebanon area or Williamette Valley in general.

I'm in Oregon, we are a family of six on a five acre parcel. Where's the best place to ask questions comparing breeds for starting a flock?
Thanks and howdy,
Shallon.

Hi Shallon and welcome to BYC!

First you might want to do some reading in our learning center here on BYC for lots of good reads on all the aspects of keeping poultry...

You can chat with others in your state thread to see how they do things in your territory....

Lots of great layers out there. Here are a couple of external links to nice breeds pages that I used before picking my breeds...

This should get you started. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Welcome to our flock and enjoy your new adventure!
