I'm fairly new to the forum and have had chickens for about 6 years now but looking around here realize I know very very little about them compared to many here. Over the years I've lost birds (both chickens and guinea fowl) to the local fox family, it seems to happen once or twice a year (probably as the kits get old enough to learn to hunt) and I'd like to stop it. My thought is that I will soon have an empty goat pen (about 15' x 36') which I could easily convert to a nice safe pen until momma fox and her killers in training have moved back into the woods for their meals. Currently my chickens have all been free range and therefore, for the most part, have fed themselves. If I pen them they'll no longer have access to some of the goodies they're getting now so I'll need to start feeding them. I'm generally opposed to any feed that's adding hormones etc because of it's affect on both the chickens and the people eating the eggs ... so would like to stick to a more natural/organic feed without causing my husband to have financial heart failure. I just found the treats list and will dig into that more later but for a regular "feed" what all do you suggest?
