Organically fed animals

The quotes in articles concerning "meat and bone meal" do not specify from which animal source (poultry/pork/etc) ... rendered fat was the allowed source for poultry (beef) which is why I posted that article showing that it too was now being regulated (one of the reasons for the delayed marketing of those poultry feed blocks was that it relied on tallow/fat which at that time incl a beef source which delayed approval of the product as the regulations to ensure this did not come from a beef source/or met with the stringent regulations of such (now on the same order as for human food as explained in the renderers link)

WES in tX (for those who know him from the original BYC forum) is really up to date with all things FDA and he stated that "no" beef by products are allowed (with the exception of a very regulated rendered fat) ... I shall take some time to look into it in more detail but all I had read stated same.

"bone and meat" meal does not necessarily imply that it is from a beef/cow source... it is still my understanding this is forbidden.
I only hear ppl complaining they cant find poultry feed with animal protein in it anyway!!! (That is why they use GAME feed... it falls outside the regulations for livestock feed)

Although the book may be politically charged in some ways, I must say I have met many people along the way that give that as one of the reasons for making healthier and more informed buying choices. So no matter what, the politics of the writer ignored, if it makes people think and research their choices I think it is a very good thing.

The U.S policy on animal feeds is a smoke and mirrors game for the most part. That is why many animal feeds from U.S. origin are banned from import to Canada. Check the CFIA website for more info. The "exception for rendered fat" has left a huge loop hole.
