Organizing Eggs for Sale

I have not seen those, thank you! That might be an option. Even better if I can find something that’s not plastic. Picky picky huh! My daughter gave me some that were fired and glazed clay, once. Not enough for a dozen eggs a day, just one dozen for countertop storage. Love them though!
I know you just said not plastic but I did just remember someone mentioning once they found them at a Dollar Tree store. I found them for $1.00 each.

You're really not likely to find a better means of safeguarding your eggs adequately and saving yourself time than to just use the cartons. You can store, maintain and sell them easily without the need of transferring around.
You can collect them in whatever manner is easiest. Most people do use baskets, I think, for this. Clean them and set directly into the cartons. It may be handy, if you're selling hatching eggs to carry a crayon in your pocket or a couple of stickers sheets so you can quickly log a date. I wouldn't mark each one. I'd mark 1 and then immediately put them into the carton.
I'd probably add a pretty label to the cartons I was selling or giving away & probably write something on it like "Thank you for your patronage!" & sign with your name or the name of your farm. Whatever sort of label, etc you add could be personalized or you could buy egg cartons on Amazon. Regular customers are likely to return the egg cartons, but new customers will expect them to be packaged.

If you're selling hatching eggs you could use another color basket to collect those and do not clean them at all or as minimally as possible. Always date these & write breed as you collect, for accurate reference.
I said to use a crayon because a marker takes longer to remove the lid each time & can stain clothing. You could use a pencil or preferably, an ink pen for this purpose also.
I would set the full cartons into a milk crate, keeping the older eggs rotated to the top.
I hope this helps. Best of luck in your endeavors!

Thank you! I’m going to just use cartons - based on your reply and some others. I’m not really stuck now, to the idea of selling these eggs - I might “share” or trade instead. I’m not thrilled with the sanitary washing required for any sort of sale. Washes the bloom off and completely stupid if you ask me! But, it’s the way it is.

agreed; there was a long thread on this issue some time ago. BTW, the regs are the opposite in the EU, making clear to all on both sides of the Atlantic that the way things are is mutable :p

I am in California and have had a licensed egg business for years. I just gather the eggs and put them in the carton. When the carton is full I write the julian date on the end. I place them in an old fridge in the garage and stack them with the oldest julian date top to bottom and left to right. I sell the oldest first. I also sell hatching eggs. Those I just walk out to the coop during the day and pick up a few newly laid eggs for the person who wants them. We are not required to wash the eggs here. I think that is foolish also and never do it. If they are soiled I keep them and use them in the house. Good luck with your endeavor! :D

I can't seem to get straight answers here from Dept of Health and Dept of Ag. Not surprised if Hawaii is requiring the sanitation, we seem to lag behind with stuff like this.
