Since I wasn't getting any comments on this guy on my Oriental Gamefowl thread and the Show Off Your Games thread, I thought I'd post a whole new topic for him.

This is an Oriental gamecock that I am trying to buy from his owner who needs to get rid of him. I have yet to hear back from her. He was a rescue bird so his ancestry is unknown. A professional Thai breeder told me he looks like a Burmese/Thai cross, but that it is really impossible to tell for sure. Definitely not pure anything. He's about 7-8 pounds.

I need your opinions on this guy. Do you think he'd be good for an amateur breeding program? He looks like he's got some impressive Silver Duckwing coloring. What do you think?

Looks like a good place to start. Ask saladin for a link to his website. He has much info there, along with instructions for breeding. I`ve been glancing at the converstion on the creative project you are contemplating. Believe me, you are better off starting with real oriental anything, than to bastardize them by trying to "create" something just for the appearance, especially if that creation involves using any non oriental game blood. Start with the best blood you can find/afford and read up on breeding to improve the stock you have. Once you start outcrossing, you ruin the whole idea of the breed and it will get out of hand in a flash. Just my 2 cents.........Pop

I aint a Oreintal breeder but looks like a nice bird, wish I could get a hold of some Oreintals, Any one around the Greensboro NC. area with these kinda birds ?

Hey, rebel yell, Xyooj Aviaries is in NC and they have some Thai cockerels available. They might even have some Thai pullets available, too. They are the people who advertised the above cock. You can email Kong at [email protected] to ask if they've got any available. They're near the foothills of NC's Blue Ridge Mtns.
