Orloff

Sometimes they are called Russian Orloffs. Does anyone have them? I dont really know much about them besides what I've read in my poultry book. My mom is set on getting some of them, so I'm going to order some eggs to hatch, or some chicks from a hatchery. But theres only a few hatcheries that have them.

I had some and they were great, but....
the hens did not lay regularly, so when I tried to hatch eggs, it was very sporatic. I wanted to build a nice flock, but it just didn't work for me. The birds are friendly and HUGE.

I wish you luck. They are very hard to find.

Welp hatchery in iowa has them, and i think ideal does too. But thats all I know of. They must be fairly rare?

BYC member Fowlafoot has a flock of very nice quality Orloffs, you might try getting in touch with her. I know that earlier this year she was offering hatching eggs.

Yes, Ideal has them but their line has become reduced in size and isn't quite the right shape. In my research I came across some information suggesting that once upon a time they had started with exhibition stock, but that was years ago. I have one of their hatchery orloff pullets in my possession.

She's a very sweet and beautiful bird.

The only color I've been able to come across in the US is spangled though it's rumored that somewhere there are whites and blacks.

I think I saw some red orloffs for sale last fall here in the US somewhere, they looked like Orloffs but were black tailed red.

I was looking at those when I was ordering from Ideal this spring.... I hate that they dont have real pics of their birds though!!

I would like to see some pictures if anyone has any, and I think a white one would be really cool.. (breeding project?!?)

I was just looking on Feathersite and they have many colors there...
They may not be established, but they have many....

White
Black
Spangled
Crele
Mahogany
Black Breasted Red
Cuckoo

I really like the cuckoo, but I suppose they are probably not available in the US.
