orloffer's Spoo Puppy thread! 🐩

Not sure if it was here that I read it but make sure to get a non slippery table and train the dog to stand nicely on it before introducing 'scary' grooming tools (Finn's intimidated by one singular brush) on it. You don't want the dog to fall off and break a leg or injure itself in other ways.
Will do! The table we're getting is non-slippery, and I will make sure to train the dog to stand nicely and be comfortable with handling and the tools before "diving in" to actual grooming. I have been watching a lot of Kikopup training videos, and she has one or two excellent ones on getting a puppy desensitized to the grooming experience and tools, and one on how to train a puppy or dog to calmly tolerate toothbrushing. I am trying to write notes on them in my (minimal) free time so that when we get the puppy I will not forget everything I have been watching!

Its also best to continue shaving your dog even though you don't like the look as a young puppy, so they learn to be trained to the clippers

just a PSA LOL
I do like the look of the shaved face. :)
Shaving the face will be difficult though. The idea of using the clippers right around the eyes makes me anxious.

In that case, grooming will not be completely new to your puppy. That may make it easier for you :)
I'm very happy about that! The breeder has also been playing soundtracks of noises such as fireworks to desensitize the puppies to them. This is great too, as our house is typically not so calm and quiet.

It looks like the puppies (or at least one of them, based on the picture) had a bath today!

The breeder played some more desensitization noises today, including loud crying babies and thunder. She said she will play them some chicken & quail noises if we send some soundtracks to her. (Our 2 male quail crow as often as 8-10 times per minute from 5 AM to 7 AM :he).

The puppies are just over 7 weeks old now! They have grown so much since 2 1/2 weeks old, which is when we got on the list to get one.
Today according to the pictures/videos they explored an agility tunnel. The breeder is playing barnyard noises and jungle noises. 2 days ago she played chicken noises (egg laying song). Here are some of the pictures!

When we get the puppy, do you think I should let her see the chickens (from a distance) and watch how she reacts to them, or try to keep her out of the area entirely until she has had some training (this latter option would be difficult to achieve, due to the size of our yard)?

The puppies had their first vaccinations today. Just 3 more days until we get a puppy!
