ornamental chicken breeds contest is now open :D

There are no Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, Wyandootes,or Easter eggers

wyandottes for the most part are considered a meat breed (or duel purpose), rir are strictly used for laying (for the most part), barred rocks are considered layers (duel purpose) as well in the books and sites i have read, with easter eggers there are to many combinations that create ee's and with the later generations there can be up to 3+ breeds mixed in and i'm only wanting pure breeds, no mixes, in this show, and ee's are also considered a laying breed.

trust me this wasnt easy to determine which breeds were considered ornamental. this by far is one of the hardest contest/shows i have put together going to at least 3-5 different sources online and in books theres at least 25 breeds that all sites/books had in common and i almost just stopped with those but choose to go ahead and use the other breeds that i also found listed as ornamental on here to which led me to 30 breeds

its also hard for me to turn down a breed cause i love seeing pics of all the beautiful chickens but alas for this contest i have to use all my will power to turn breeds down. i will in the future either before or after this long show ends create another show just for layers and one just for meat breeds and with those i will only be using storey's illustrated guide to poultry breeds which in total list over 128 different birds (including ducks, geese, ect).

i do hope you enjoy this and have fun with it

WOW!

A lot of breeds/ information!

yes in deed. total i think (if i counted right) theres 45 different breeds. before i even started posting this i was looking things up for about 1 month, then a week total to get the whole show up and running as i only created a few threads at a time so i wouldnt knock any other current shows off this main page :D...i'm sure judging will not be easy but sure will be fun and its also going to be an open judging when the show ends, only thing i ask is that you dont choose yourself
