There is a symbol that looks like an envelope next to your alerts icon. Click the envelope icon to open up the conversations tool. Click on the 'start a conversation' hot link.
Click in the Recipients box and start typing the name of the person with whom you'd like to PM then click on the correct username when it appears in the list. Enter a title for your conversation then start typing your message in the main text box.
