She is 9 mos old and at the bottom of the pecking order. She had lost some feathers on her back(as have the other two hens), we assume from being mounted by the rooster.

We didn't go out to tend to the chickens yesterday due to a crazy schedule. When my kids went out today they discovered that she has a bad gash on her back going down her right side. It probably bled but honestly, though it looks deep and big, it really reminds me of skin that has cracked open. It's dry not oozing or anything. We washed it with soap and water and poured peroxide over it. I knew that neosporin was okay to use so we put some neosporin with pain relief on it. Then I got on here and started reading and discovered that some pain killers are toxic. So now I'm more worried about that than anything. The pain reliever that it contained is pramoxine.

Does anyone know if that particular pain reliever is toxic and if so what should we do?

The hen overall seems to be doing remarkably well. She is eating, drinking, pooping, otherwise seems normal. It's been about one and half hours since I put the neosporin/pain reliever on her.

Any information would be appreciated.

I think it's fine. I've used the triple antibiotic ointment with that pain reliever for years on them. You just cannot use benzocaine or lidocaine types. Dont pour anymore peroxide on it, though. Hope she's okay.
