Orphaned chick

we have taken turns holding her today she's litterally 24hours old now, she seems to like nesting in my sons hair best silly thing, just hoping she doesn't turn out to be a roo now we are all extra attached"!

The chick is outside in a large rabbit cage and the hens are wandering around it all the time. When it gets bigger I'm going to put it in that run I mentioned - it's fully fenced with chicken wire (except the top - so it could fly out

) - I'm going to do this on a day when I'm home and keep an eye on things. There is a dog kennel inside the run that it could go into when it wants - right now it's too small and would just walk out of the dog kennel. I may allow the hens to get inside the run to see how that works after it's been in there a couple days - then it would kind of be like them going into its territory. If they seem to be adjusting without major issues - I'll get the chick (which should be close in size to the hens- I don't dare try to integrate them while it's still small) and put it inside the chicken house at bedtime and be there in the morning when they wake up to see what happens.
I think your taking naps with the baby is so cute. I'd have to keep the cat out of the room if I did that - the dogs would be fine but the cat is a different story.
It was so cute this morning when I went out and all you could see peeking out from the stuffed rabbit was it's little head.

I hope this one isn't a roo either - I already have one too many....the tail feathers are already showing and according to someone a hen shows tail feather early - I'm hoping it's a girl - if not I'm going to have make a hard decision about at least one rooster.

I've given her a cuddly toy she's got crumb and water she's warm but she hasn't stopped cheeping in ages ...... Help me what can I do? Pam your baby sounds gorgoeus!!! mine is a tiny black and yellow Pekin (cochin) and was pretty badly beaten up by the broodies when she hatched all the others are yellow and red so maybe they were shocked to see a black chick? my sis is a vet nurse and says she isn't injured visibly so thats not it. any advice welcome xxxx
