orphaned emu chicks

that answers my next question, about blending them with our two adults. Thank you for the advice! The second egg hatched this morning, chick looks healthy, and we have him separated from the first born because there are several days in between them in age. Do you think they can be housed together in a day or so or will they fight? hoping they can be put together to keep each other company.

thanks

you should be able to put the two chicks together once the youngest one is up on his feet.

Occasionally there will be pecking.. but personally I have never had an issue with my chicks fighting.. so keep an eye on them and see how they do

They will do very well together. Emus are very sociable and do much better with a hatch buddy. We have had single chicks bond with a chicken bitty, and even our pet dogs!

I have three right now that love my american eskimo puppy... I think they are convinced she's a funny looking emu. They LOVE to snuggle with her

However..... I just don't trust her alone with them since she's still a "puppy" (almost 4 months old and weighs next to nothing) and tends to think that most things need to go into her mouth sooner or later. (especially my arm... she's teething right now). She loves to sit and watch them.. nuzzle them with her nose and tries to be gentle.. but she is after all just a puppy.. and can easily get carried away without supervision. Hopefully as time goes by they continue with their bond of friendship.

from last year:

these two snuggled together and were best buddies until the emu chick was old enough to move outside

thanks everyone - even though the newest one (hatched 2 days after it's sibling) was real steady on his feet, we put them in one bin with screen mesh down the middle to get to know each other. They raised such a fuss trying to get to each other, we took the mesh out, and they instantly fell asleep all cuddled up. Too dang cute!

I've put them together with several weeks age difference and never had an issue.. but I hate to tell someone to just throw them in there just in case they have that one odd emu with an attitude

Oh dear, an emu with an attitude, not good!

Thanks for your info. :)

in the babies it's extremely rare.. just something to be on the lookout for.. cause if I told you that there would be zero problems.. THAT'S the one time one would pop up!
