orphaned mallard eggs

I trained with NWRA to be a rehabber years ago, but then I lost my house. So without my own property there was no point in finalizing my licensing:-( Now I wish I had. Maybe I should just take them to a center like you suggest enola..ugh....my daughter will be so upset. She was so excited to raise and release them.

This is a teachable moment - and you can possibly find a re-habber who would be willing to talk with her about why it's important that the process be done the correct way as well as perhaps even mentoring her so she can still feel a part of the process. Hatching them is the easy part -- raising them in a way that would end with birds who would be releaseable is the real work, and the part that is best left to those with not just the training, but the experience.

Yes, they need to stay wild.....I appreciate your insight OGM. Does anyone know a private licensed rehabber (chicago west burbs) that would allow my daughter to be part of the process? She's a very mature 15 year old. If not, I'll give Fox Valley Wildlife a call. Thank you everyone for the welcomes & advise.

I don't know any names but, I am sure you will find rehabbers in that area. Very woodsy, very nature oriented population. Good luck, please update what happens with them in any case. We get involved as soon as we read posts and like to find out the outcomes. Thank you very much.

I am in the same boat. Can someone please tell me if this egg is still alive? I am doing my best to research and accommodate this lIttle guy left near my pool. Please advise! I brought the egg in after 3 days of being abandoned. The temp never dropped below 60 degrees but it did rain.
