Orpington crazy in so cal

hello and welcome. jessica I know chickens are awesome and I have Orpington too. They are super fluffy and addictive. However, Jessica - before adding any more i urge you to focus on this: make sure your chickens have a safe predator proof coop…with good ventilation and 1/2 inch hardware cloth covering all openings.
Thank you I appreciate that ! I gave up my 8x16 wood green house to them it is completely enclosed with locking door and windows. (They are slowly bringing the last of my succulents to death by eating them all.) They also snagged another outside plant area that is 8x15 completely enclosed chain link with finch wire under the ground and then attached to bottom of chain link enclosure . It’s chain link and it has two layers of shade cloth on all the chain link. So they have an inside area with full spectrum light and heat and outside area for day time. They do also free range but that is a war between them and my 4 dogs because when the chickens are out free range the dogs are in. It would have just made more since to make a coop area with a run and you know actual nesting boxes so I can sneak my hand through like a robber. Currently every day I open the green house doors and say let’s go girls and older ladies run to outside chain link and get locked in and go eat breakfast and hang out and then at 11 I go get the younger crew and give them as much out of the greenhouse time as possible. It’s a pain and I’m pretty sure I send most of my days picking up poo from EVERY WHERE. That’s my least favorites part. It’s literally like a full time job. So one day hopefully not only in my dreams I will have a coop at least 300 ft away from my house that has inside outside living with different sections all in one large house so everyone is together yet kept purish. Right now their whole setup is within 75 ft of my house. But that’s because it was all made for plants. I never bought a coop not even a small one. But one day! Those little ones for 3 and 400$ doesn’t tickle my fancy. The egg plant that I’ve seen on here that’s a coop! Heck I love all the coops in the large coop section. Sorry I didn’t make it more clear but I guess it took me a paragraph to try to explain šŸ˜‚šŸ™ˆ

Hi thank you so much! Following all of you so I can eye your babies too! I just saw your mystery chicks on a post. Did you figure out what they are?
Someone else had posted on my page, so I have no clue! I have 2 Australorps and a Golden Comet ā¤ļø We really want to add an Orpington in the spring, but I'm a little spooked by their rumored broodiness; not looking to hatch anything over here!
