I finally have gotten some of my orpington eggs rolling and hatching all healthy and active. My only question is the color of their legs. I know they should be black or slate color but there is some orange/ yellow on their toes. They are pure bred and the stock parents came from reputable breeders. The parents have the solid dark legs so I'm not sure if it's just something that pops up sometimes or what. I know the yellow is not desirable but is it something that is an absolute "no no" like a single comb on a wyandotte? If the bird is amazing besides the blotching on his legs is it still a good bird to breed?

Here are some pictures of the babies and their parents.

Check in the middle of the bottoms of the adult males feet. The bottoms of his feet should be white- if they are yellow then you have an adult bird that has yellow skin. It could also be that the chicks are heterozygous for white/yellow skin and the legs will turn white as the chicks age.

The bottoms of the hens feet may be hard to determine color because hens loose yellow pigment in their skin after about 6 months of laying eggs.
