Orpington newbie

:welcome :frow Where did you get your chicks? They don't appear to be pure breeds to me either. Do you have any pictures of them standing up so we can see the legs? Buff Orpingtons have Single Combs and those appear to have Rose Combs. You are correct and do have a male. You will find a lot of good information here BYCArticles.jpg Good luck and have fun...

Years ago I raised Buff Orpington's for our local 4H. I also show my birds at poultry shows. Here are some pictures. Again good luck with your birds and have fun...

Good morning and welcome to BYC! :celebrate@cmom is correct, as it appears you do have a male. All the rest appear to be female. I have raised Buff Orps for a while now and would love to give you some pointers. As you can see in cmom's last picture, not the one all the way on the left, but the one beside it is male. Assuming they are all the same age, you can tell since males will normally be larger than the females. Also in the picture, he is already developing a comb, as well as a wattle. As none of the others are showing this as I can see. Also, as mentioned above, these chickens are crossed bred, maybe some Buff Orp and Wellsummer mixes. As I am no professional, this is all the advice I can give you.
