This chicken should be a lavendar orpington, but obviously too dark. Would this be a blue orpington? Also, it has gotten so big, and I'm thinking rooster on this one. What do you all think? Hatched 11/1/2012 so almost 4 months.

Oh I would LOVE it if this was a girly! I am at 3 roosters now! I do love the color, even though I was expecting Lavender.

It's definitely a blue, but it's not a girl. A Blue Orpington female would not have that distinct blue saddle on it's back, but rather a smokey lighter uniform blue body.

Sorry :(

ive had blue pullets with a dark saddle before and at 15.5 weeks the saddles and hackles would be more devloped and visiable but do give it another 2 weeks

trust me i want to say cockerel as the coloring is there along with comb but the feathering that should be there isnt there

I will keep my fingers crossed that you are right. This ones legs are pretty thick too. Will update in a couple of weeks!

I also think blue roo. I've seen way more slow maturing orp boys than fast maturing girls.

And Rooster it is. Trying his hardest to make a proper crow, although sounds like something is being tortured at the moment.

And he is officially for sale, local only (Phoenix, AZ). Oh well. It's the risk we take when we order eggs to hatch. Handsome guy, and not aggressive.
