For friendly hens, try Speckled Sussex! Love them! The males that I've had are another story, though. Half were polite, and half were human aggressive. I've given up on raising them because of the problems I had with the cock birds. Also, the boys have big single combs, more difficult in colder weather.
I wasn't thrilled with the hatchery buff Orphingtons, the one time I got them. Not social, kinda dumb, and died by two years of age. Never tried them again.
