Orpingtons-- Buffs vs Other Colors?

Absolutely hoosier! I raise new buffs every year to incorporate into my breeding pen. I have a nursery in that coop tho, so they get to grow up seeing the elders for a long period of time and then one day I either just open the nursery or put them on the roost at night for bedtime. They all wake up together. There is a little fuss, but it is not bad as long as the young ones are good size and have space to get away from the pushy elders. They will establish the pecking order and the young ones typically take the bottom of the flock altho I've seen some move right past elder hens. My birds are pretty gentle on each other tho and accept newbies pretty well. I don't introduce the new ones until they are almost laying age, so they have good size as well.

I have heard from people who raise blue/blacks and buffs that the buffs are much friendlier. I don't know because I only raise buff. But they said that the black/blues were very picky and not as approachable as the buff counterparts. Of course, the birds were from different lines, so I'm sure that makes a difference.

Jody, Thanks for your reply/advice. If I get some, I will build an adjoining area just separated by wire so they will be together but apart.
