Orpingtons for me?

I've heard alot of great comments about buff orpingtons. But there is always no harm in making sure. If anyone has buff orpingtons, are they a good breed or are they just ok???

They are awesome. I have 44 of them

. I also have a blue roo and a splash hen. Hopefully, next Spring I will hatch more blue and splash. They are a great breed, but any breed almost is great if they are handled and have a lot of attention when very young.

Mine are just OK, but they are hatchery stock (Privett) and were at the feedstore for their first week. I don't know if they are less friendly because of their breeding or from the feedstore handling...

I'd like to try raising some good buff stock, because they lay a nice sized egg and they are nice looking hens.

Mine are fantastic, friendly, beautiful and hopefully by Christmas prolific egg layers.

Buff Orps are like the Golden Retrievers of the chicken world, you can't go wrong.

Love all my birds. If I had to pick and choose which ones to keep it would be the Orpingtons hands down. You cant bet their laid back personalities.

I have three and I had 6. I sold 3 when I was downsizing my flock because I had bills to pay...

I adore my 3 and regret selling the others...

I'm ordering 3 more this spring when I triple (or more) my flock size

Good layers, cold weather safe, good disposition, calm and quiet birds that are smart enough to go back in the coop at night but not smart enough to get into too much trouble. Potential to be good sitters and excellent mothers. I had one that I could basicly hand off baby chicks to at any old time and she would keep them warm and safe and show them how to be chickens. So much easier than keeping them in the brooder myself.

i was just about to post a question about Buff Orp personalities. i've been looking for a friend for my EE who lost her best friend, and doesn't want to be part of my Red Star pack. Posted on craigslist and a man responded saying he had a Buff Cochin that was shy and getting pecked on my his flock, so offered her.

When i got to his place, she wasn't a Cochin, but a Buff Orpington. i decided to give her a try, so have her now in a separate pen on quarantine. She seems shy and friendly. But i know nothing about the breed. Very glad to hear so many people like them. i hope she will be a good friend to my EE once i verify her health.
