Thankfully I have never had a problem with flies.

Only issues I've had with them, is their annoyance.

They were all over. My suspicion was that they came from a neighbor with chickens. We couldn't pinpoint where they came from, so couldn't get rid of them. Traps did not work.

We have 10 acres, plus lots of people around us with chickens too. So, not our issue.

Chicken poop + mud = Flies.
