My grandson had a question & I don't have the answer. How often do ostrich lay & do they sit on a clutch? My grandson & I were watching a show yesterday where they said that one ostrich egg equals two dozen chicken eggs. My grandson asked "Do ostrich lay like our girls?" I know I can always get the answers here. Thanks
The boys will typically NOT try to brood until there are 4 to 6 eggs in the nest. Now we used to just let them sit out there until we had 6 - 8 eggs and the temps were milder. Now what we do is pick up all eggs once per day so that we aren't too disruptive. Whatever is there goes straight into an incubator and viola! During the molt, their egg production dips dramatically for a few weeks where we might only see an egg every 4 - 5 days for a couple of weeks per hen. But when the molt is over, they go right back to dropping them like they can't stop them

Our juvie pastures are filling up quickly this year as well. We rotate them out of the 'kindergarten' at 60 days. Definitely hated the slow start our season got, but I'm LOVING how it's turning out this year. Pretty amazing!
