I have several piercings, and an AWESOME professional piercer.

The biggest difference in these piercings will be with healing after the fact: how inconvenient is it going to be to keep pressure off of those spots? I found the helix to be the most troublesome...it gets caught on things, bonked by the phone, and pressed against the side of your skull when you sleep.

My tragus really hardly hurt at all, but I -could- hear the cartilege pop when the needle went through. :p

The biggest factor in the pain level of the piercing is simply the level of expertise of the piercer. Seriously, take my word on this: it is so very worth whatever they charge, and however long you have to wait, to have a really good professional piercer do your work rather than getting a substandard piercing. Soooo many of those problems with pain, scarring, infection, etc can be completely avoided by finding a responsible professional who uses good equipment and aseptic surgical technique.

Check out: http://www.piercing.org/pexy/index.htm for great info. This is the shop I go to, and though i no longer live in Atlanta I will drive several hours to get to this place rather than go to a jewelry store or even a tattoo parlour.

Congrats on your new piercing, and maybe your new addiction!

Me too - But whenever I got married my hubby did not like the tongue piercing so much and he said I talked funny. I took out my helix piercing also - now I just have my standard ear piercings - one in each ear...man I've settled down.

A friend of mine got her ear lobe (easy right?) done "professionally." The woman was shaking so badly she screwed it up and only got one right. So my friend's MOM had to do the other one. I offered to help her, but oh no, the professional knew how...Yeah right. Her mom is terrible at it, too. They are so uneven. Looks really bad.

When I was little I got these
pair of bunny earing for easter that
had super long backings. Before I went
to bad I asked my parent if I could keep
them in and they said "Becarful ther dont get
stuck to your pillow" Well, long story short
I woke up at 5 AM with blood all over my pillow
and my ear got ripped. So I have a rip in my right
ear so I will never be able to have even earings.
but i rarely wear earings so it doesnt really matter.

I have had the helix done in both of my ears. The first time I had one done with the gun. After a year of fighting the pain of it not healing I just took it out and let it close. I still wanted one and so for Mother's day a few years late my husband bought me a gift certificate to a tattoo/piercing studio. I had both ears done. It hurt worse in one ear than the other (not sure which though). Then the ear that hadn't been pierced became infected, not the skin, the cartliedge itself. It HURT SO BAD!!!! All the time, it felt like it was going to explode! I got a prescription and the infection went away, but it would not heal properly, so I let it close. However, the ear that I had done previously healed great, so I still have my one little rebellion.

why do people make holes in themselves and hang bits of metal in the holes? I would hate it. I really hate it in small children.

I've had 7 ear piercings. Both ears helix, 4 lobe and then the conch on my left ear. NEVER get a flat stud on the conch, it deforms a bit. Get a ring or a small round stud

It's crazy I went through all that discomfort and one helix infection that lasted 3 months and now I don't wear any earrings.

Belly button was the most painful, I still wear that one. Glow in the dark ring.

My belly button piercing refused to heal, and I was told by my doc that everybody has different amount of blood flow to different parts of the body. Low blood flow=slow/no healing. My ears and nose healed up fine, but the one in the button actually moved, because my body was trying to reject it!( Love to have the industrial)

Silkelovr... I also have a ripped ear hole, so I can only have a tiny light gold hoop in it. I should just get a stretcher in it!!
