OT: Piercing questions

Quote:
Different strokes for different folks I reckon. I begged to get my ears pierced when I was 3 and my mom let me get it done, there's nothing wrong with that. Even at 3 years old, it's my ears I can do what I want with them. I still have those holes too if I ever choose to wear earrings again. I don't care what people want to do with their bodies...it's not hurting me.

Uhh...because I wanted it?

I am a very vanilla kinda girl. All I have is my lobes and one helix pierced so far. I may get another piercing in the other ear, but that's it for me. Personal choice.

My kids...putting holes in your body is a personal choice, as I said. We decided that it was THEIR choice so when/if they are ready, they can get piercings (only earrings until they are legal to sign for it on their own), but I have not and will not do it because *I* want to.

Me too Southern, I have seven holes in my ears and only wear one pair consistently... I have a helix, got it done 15 years ago. It's been my favorite/best so far...

I wear all my piercings all the time. I'm paranoid about something closing up. I don't like it when people make their babies and toddlers get it, though. Poor children.

I got my first pair done on my lobes when I was about 4, because I begged for it.

But just because you don't like it doesn't mean other people feel the same way, obviously, since piercings are very popular

I was going to say that too. I think that piercing should be the person's decision, I don't like seeing 1 year olds with earrings. You know a baby didn't ask to have their ears pierced. Just my opinion. Don't beat me up here.

Well, it is your body, do with it what you want.

I am just curious how you all get through the metal detectors with all of stuff.

I have seen people try to explain about shrapnel they still have in their bodies.

I cannot remember the last time I had to go through a metal detector. And..um...they're not permanent. The rings can come out if need be.

I'm not into piercing babies or young children - it's a form of cosmetic surgery (albeit minor and reversable) on someone who is not able to give informed consent. Same reason my boys aren't circumscised. Of course removing an entire part of the body isn't minor OR reversible...

Personally I don't really get into the piercing thing - and I hate to have to listen to someone who talks with a lisp because their tongue is pierced.

I think that aside from girls choosing to have one hole pierced for earrings and not younger than 10 yrs old, just from the hygiene aspect if nothing else, that anything else should wait until you are legally and adult. But, if you are an adult and choose to have it done then whatever. That's the rules for my kids, anyway.

What really drives me nuts, though, is people who have studs coming out of their face, nose rings connected to ear rings, etc who then complain that 'people JUDGE me because of the way I look'. Clue people, you will ALWAYS be judged by the way you look. That's human nature. These days though, peircings and tattoos are so common that to be really 'out there' you have to have something really radical done - like a Prince Albert or something like that LOL. It seems that my hubby and I are the only people our age (late 30s) that I know that don't have some sort of tattoo, much less something other than the traditional one hole ear piercing.
