OT: Piercing questions

Quote:
I am not trying to disagree here, but I have had my ears done 7 times in each ear...all with a gun..never had an infection once. Hardly ever where earrings anymore, have went 2 years at one time with not oneearring in my ears and the wholes have never closed...
I had my belly button done also with an ear piercing gun...I know kinda dumb...But it has never healed shut either. I have not wore a ring in there for almost 6 years (well maybe a day or two here or there but never more than that over the past 6 years).
Nose, eyebrows(one in each) and tounge are all pierces also...I have went 1 1/2 years with nothing in eyebrows~~can still stick a hoop in them today if wanted. Nose keep that in all the time, but have went 6 days (surgery) without one in and not a problem putting it back in. Same thing with tounge. Same surgery went 6 days with no tounge ring and put it back in 6 days later with not the slightest bit of difficulty.
Maybe I am a freak of nature in that aspect...

But I have seen people take there tounge ring out and 20 minutes later couldn't even get it back in.

edited to add...On the original post...my girlfriend has her daith and tragus done. She has had them for roughly 5 years now. And still to this day everytime she yawns or opens her mouth wide she hears the cartilidge or what ever is there POP!!! She has both left and right done both and it happens on each side...

I went to WalMart the other day and there was a little boy about 6 years old with long hair and his ears were both pierced. He was very cute, but I think he might be teased by others.

Actually, I doubt he does. It is so common these days. All three of my boys have had their ears pierced. My youngest had to take his out (he has eczema and it never would heal right). None have had issues with being teased, in fact, a lot of their frineds have theirs done now too (I had a LOT of moms telling me I ruined their kid...LOL). We live in a very rural area and we tend to be a bit different than most here. My middle son was the first ever at our school to have a mohawk, when he was 6, (dyed crayon red no less) and got tired of it about the time it caught on with the other kids.

I have 6 in my left ear and 7 in my right (including a helix in the right), my nose, and both nipples. I love holes and even though I am 37 will probably have more some day. None hurt too bad (nipples worst, nose the least...didn't really even feel it) and all healed quickly and well. The only problem I have had with the helix is when I am getting a haircut (I always wear a tiny hoop in it). I have lost many earrings when they went flying across a salon after being grabbed by a comb (I have not so small ears anyway).

Good luck with all the holes! I got the traditional regular boring holes in the ears... and it took them about 3 years to heal. I have to be very careful with them because they will get irritated if you look at them wrong. My skin sucks.

I have been doing body piercings since I was 15, and I must agree with Vamp....NEVER get pierced with a gun. A gun may be an acceptable way to pierce an earlobe (at least acceptable for wal-mart) however, when piercing cartilage it is not a good idea to use a gun. The most tell-tale sign of piercing-gun work on cartilage is the lump that develops behind the piercing. This is not caused so much from trauma, but from the cartilage attempting to re-distribute itself around the jewelry. When pierced with a needle, not only is the cartilage properly pierced instead of torn as it would be with a gun, but a piece of the cartilage is taken out, leaving space for the jewelry in its place. This helps prevent the lump behind the piercing and the healing process. I have 19 holes in my ears (9 on one side, 10 on the other) and all my piercings except for one have been done with 14 gauge hollow needles. The first set of ear piercings I got was with a gun, and compared to the needle piercings it was horrible and took forever to heal. Other than the first set, I have done all my own piercings. I have my tongue double pierced, my lip, an industrial, bellybutton, and random standard ear piercings. I've had other *locations* pierced, as well as my eyebrow several times (yes, I was a wild kid, see my page for general details) and I've pierced hundreds of people. Compared to the piercings I've done for them and the piercings they've had done with a gun, safety pin, nail, or other various incorrect methods, they have had NO problems at all. Healing is quick, virtually no pain within a short time, and everything looks great.

Cleaning piercings: DO NOT USE SOAP, ALCOHOL, OR PEROXIDE. You can use Betadine, but that is the ONLY chemical to use on a piercing, and I wouldn't even suggest that unless you're having problems caused from using the other three chemicals. You body is very good at healing itself, and using chemicals interferes with that healing. USE SALT WATER. Mix one tsp of sea salt or Epsom salt into about 8 oz of water (if ur piercing is infected or you're having problems with it use two tsp) dissolve the salt, and clean your piercing VERY WELL with a few Q-tips. For the navel, SOAK the piercing by bending over, placing the cup on your navel, pressing it close to your skin, then stand upright and lie down. This creates a seal around the cup so no water can leak out, and lets you soak the area. Navel piercings can be difficult to heal, so do the saline soak three times a day for the first month 5-10 minutes per soak, then twice a day for the second month, then at least once a day for the third month. You may want to continue soaking periodically until the 6 month mark, since it takes about 6 months for the navel to be 100% healed. Don't get me wrong, it will be practically healed after a couple months, but before it's all done no more problems period it's about 6 months.

My hubby thinks he can stop me too.Haha!Love your signiture. Piercing guns are just gross because they cant be sterilized properly.
To a really old question...my tragus didnt hurt. I need something new. I took out everything in my face except my monroe. Id like to redo my vertical labret. It was hot! I took out all of my lip rings too. I need something in my mouth, but I dont trust any piercers around here...

I have 17 piercings all done by me except for my tongue. Too difficult to do yourself. I took 3 online courses and worked one on one with a piercer for 6 months. The healing times are vary depending ur body and the way u take care of them. Currently I just wear my helix, nips, belly. All of my holes are still open tho. I only ues needles, would never trust a gun.

Just peaking in at this topic again because I have since gotten a few more piercings. ;-) I now have helix and two lobes on the right ear and on the left ear, two lobes, two helix and the tragus. LOVE the tragus, pain was so minimal, I'd do it again in a heart beat. I had it done by a professional piercer, needle, etc. THAT is the way to go and I will for any more piercings. I can definitely tell as far as healing, keloids, etc. It initially hurt a bit more than the gun ones, BUT not since then and the recovery has been fantastic.

I'm going for a daith on the right side as soon as my tragus heals. My piercer (love how that sounds! hehe) is just waiting for me to say the word for it to be done.

After the daith, I am probably done, though. I'm sticking with only ears. I think some facial piercings can be extremely hot on the right person (love nose rings!), but my spouse does not care for them and I am respecting that. I don't want for any other piercings. DH says yeah right. He knows I can't stop. ;-)

Anyway, this is the left ear when it was still pretty fresh and red. I got the two helix and the tragus all done the same day. NOT my smartest move in the world. ;-)

Don't have a picture of my other, but it's just like the first one I posted, but with another lobe and I am enlarging the helix to 14g so I have more jewelry choices.

I had my lip peirced a couple years ago, I had it for a few weeks then got bored with it and took it out. It was painful getting it, the lady said that peircing my lip was like trying to peirce through the bottom of a thick shoe. When I got it I told my mom that it isnt permanent and if I didnt like it that it would heal over unlike a tattoo.

I have been piercing for the better part of 14 yrs!! I used to work for a tattoo shop, but the owners of those places are kinda mean!! So now I do private appts at home. I have heard they are addicting, I never got into getting them though. I like tattoos!! I do love sticking people though! A helix is a bit tricky to heal, since it goes into the cartillage, you don't want to use anything like neosporin on it, because it will get all gucky (technical term!!) I always have my clients use saline solution on it 3-5 times daily, once a day use 50% saline and 50% rubbing alcohol. That will heal it like a dream, and keep it from getting the ugly bumps on the back of the piercing!!!
