OT: Piercing questions

I have no idea if they're fashionable or not. I guess the helix is b/c I see them everywhere. I got it b/c I liked it, though. Same with the tragus and the daith I'll be getting shortly.

I've pierced my ears & bellybutton myself, using nothing but a safety-pin and alchohol. Mainly as a rebellion thing because my mom is all, anti-piercings. Let them all heal up, though... tempted to do the belly button again, though. haha

Kimmie ~ I'll be 30 this year and it still freaks my mother out. I do them for me. I love them, personally. It's the only oddity that I have (don't ask DH to verify that, I'm sure he could think of more! hehe). Other than piercings, I am an extremely straight laced "good girl".

If you like them, do them for you and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. (Provided you're legal and all that yadda, yadda.)

The safety pin thing is all great and wonderful, but please remember that safetly pins will corrode in your skin, and you'll end up with blood poisoning....not only that, but because of the location of your bellybutton and the fact that a piercing is nothing but a major puncture wound you're going to want a hollow needle to actually remove skin to make room for the jewelry. Also, navel piercings take a long time to heal, and if they're not done right you can end up with MAJOR complications! Trust me, I'm the one who did the piercing with the safety pin and learned the hard way. Then I ended up becoming a piercer. Either convince ur mom to let you get it done or focus on different piercings for the time being, like ears. A navel, tongue, lip, or eyebrow is NOT something you want to get an infection in!!!

We have a local 15 yr. old boy who pierced his tongue by hisself w/o his parental permission and now is paying the price with a staph infection. He's had multiple surgerys and has been in the hospital about 2 months. About lost his face.

I had my helix peirced but with a gun and it blew the cartlage so I developed a bump which I felt was uncomfortable so I removed it and let it close up. After the fact I was told that if I'd had it done with a needle the cartlage would not of blown
