OUCH! Stepped on a nail, so what's the best way to treat it?

I might have done both if I hadn't of had to drive and run around all day for easter.

My minds a blank today...would waiting until monday for the shot be ok? It happened early this morning.

My mom scared the livin' daylights outta me when I was a kid over lock-jaw horrors. Guess the shots aren't as a bad as getting lock-jaw!! LOL

Better safe than sorry, GO and get that tetanus shot, even it would be on the fifth year, the booster may not be as strong as the first two years.

I don't watch those needles go in, lol. I can watch a lot of things and have had tons of needles, even poked in my chest several times a day, but regular shots I cannot watch go in and out, lol.

Ok, thank you all. I've got it soaking in salt water now, will then put more alcohol on it & maybe some 5% lidocaine around the area to numb it a little. Odd thing is, I'd made an appt monday for my nephew to get a tet shot at his request since it was 10 years ago for his last. Guess I jinxed myself, lol.

Is all kosher with the tet shots if one's veins have been blown out by chemo and with other joint/muscle ills from it? I haven't had a tet shot since treatment and can't remember why.

My last tetanus shot was done with a really small needle used for babies. I told the nurse how bad the last one was and didn't even realize she gave me the shot while I was talking. I just thought she was swabbing the injection spot. I don't remember my arm being sore either. I need to remember to get a tetanus shot next time I go to the dr. It's been over 10 years. My last one was when I stepped on a needle used for denim. Hurt like an sob and I had to call my sis to pull it out with a pair of plyers. I waited 15 minutes for her to drive over. Thankfully my kids who were 4 and 5 were playing and didn't need anything while I waited.

Yep, I second the tetanus shot and antibiotic cream. But if it went in 1/2 inch, the cream is probably just to make yourself feel better. Any redness or fever is an ER visit for sure...lots of nasty infections waiting for an opportune moment these days.

I agree - smaller needle doesn't hurt. Some people are better at giving shots than others. But I agree with everyone - tetanus shot - better safe than sorry.
