Ouch. still ouch. yep, still ouch.

...but i still had about 4 hours at the barn and i really wanted to ride, so i just kept the news from my mom.

Hi! Way to hang tough! I admire that!
There are many people that would have fell out and screamed for an ambulance.
I don't know how to say this without it sounding bad, but if my parents knew all the times I was 'wounded' by my ponys / horses when I was a kid growing up, they would have taken them away --- period.
I knew not to complain any time I got stepped on, stomped, kicked, ect. early on.
Of course, my enthusiasm and my parents 'lack of' judgement came into question ...
I was given a never-touched-before 2 year-old when I was 11 and was riding him in 6 months. He nearly killed me a couple of times and wounded me more times, but my thing was you never complain about 'horse-related wounds' .

I hope your toe feels better soon.
Passion can over-ride pain.

yes i don't tell them when i get hurt unless its noticeable! i knew if i told her she would come rushing up there and take me home and there's nothing she can do to fix it. and once i was in the saddle, it didn't hurt too bad. there's been times i've fallen off and my mom was only informed because the trainer ratted on me!

OOOOOOOOOh no, not steel toes!!

Worked in a wilderness camp back in the late 80's. Some do-da from the city bought steel toes to wear when working on wagons and with the mules and horses. Didn't take a week before one of the mules tried him out, stepped on his foot and stood there (mules get even, they never forget!) Steel toe came down on do-da's toes and cut 3 of them off!!

1 word---Wellingtons!!!!

hehehe i love horses! i've gotten to the point that when the new school horses come in i'm asked to ride them to see if they behave. my trainer jokes that the horses now need my seal of approval to stay! lol! i've gotten on the most "insane" horses that normally buck people off instantly and they behaved nicely. amazingly i've only fallen off 5 times, people have said that my butt never comes out of the saddle. my horse went crazy bucking and galloping one day and i just let her burn her energy and everyone gave me the most amazed look. i love it!

If you get steel toes, get ANSI approved steel toes! The lower quality ones are more dangerous than not having them. I would much rather have crushed toes than no toes! (I used to work in a Red Wing Store that specialized in steel toe footwear) A steel toe SHOULD NOT DO THAT. You should be able to run over them with a forklift or drop a steel beam on them and they should not crush ... a steel toe crushed by a mule was either extremely cheaply made or defective (and I vote for cheeply made).
