our babies are here

our new babies started to hatch last night around 6:30 pm we have 5 in the brooder now and 2 still in the hatcher, and more on the way. i think pretty well for only our second attempt.

Forgot to ask - is your brooder a wal-mart type container? looks perfect!

yes, our brooder is a clear box we purchased from walmart, we installed hardware cloth on one half of the lid and have our brooder lamp positioned there. these chicks are in our bathroom, the temps here are pretty cold. the thing you see besides the brooder is the bator.

Tks Bm, I read posts all the time that mention "hardware cloth" what is that exactly? and how does it get fastened on?

Hardware cloth is actually a screen with 1/4 inch holes,at least what we used is.Purchased it at a local Ace Hardware,in the screen door section.It was fastened to the top of our container wit a staple gun using heavy duty staples ,a firm grip,and a big old staple gun.Hope this helps.Your Friends, Bruce&Missy

the chicks in the brooder are doing fine. theirs one in the bator that's pretty weak, she pipped her shell yesterday, then justed stopped, apprantly got weaker and weaker. so we stepped in, followed the instructions on the sticky post, and got her completly out. she peeping loudly now, and getting stronger, i hope. it appears that theres more chicks on their way out, some pipping.....
