One of our youngest (an australop) chick is gone. Got home and checked on them and one was missing. There was a small (and I mean small) hole where something could have got a paw in. Then I saw it....feathers pressed against the bottom of the fence where it appears a cat was able to get a paw in and pull the chick through the hole. I'm so sad!

Dang cat! We had our original flock in there so I felt it was totally safe! I mean what are the odds? The chick would have been right there resting while the cat was there...I'm so mad!

Well...we fixed that little hole and now everyone is safe. I sure hope we don't have any more losses...this is our last batch of birds.

I feel the pain. I also lost australorp chicks to a cat. 2 of them last year as well as one to a hawk and it is heartbreaking.

Thanks...it was really hardest for the kids. They were "talking" to the birds saying "I know your friend is gone but at least you still have each other" and so on. Cute. Kids just love so openly, especially with animals.

I think it's secure now. Unfortunately he's an outdoor cat that we've caught by the chickens a few times.

Sorry to hear about your little fuzzy butt

We don't have cats because our dogs are proven cat killers so I guess I can be thankful for that at least
