Our Backyard Bee Journey!💗🐝

Yes, 10, but now giving 9 a try.
I've heard that can increase your honey yield. Would love to hear how it turns out for you. We run 8 frame, so we'd be down to 7. Would be nice to know if we could get more honey by doing that. I might try it on one of our supers next year.

When you run with one-less-frame than what the box holds, do you just space them out as evenly as possible/
Yes and it allows them to draw the comb out further, thus more honey. I'll wait until we have comb drawn out on most of our frames before we try it. I'm sure you know the rest of what I shared, but I want the others who are following to understand it too. 🙂

Running one less frame is for easy uncapping. For more honey you can add more supers as long as the colony is strong and there is a good nectar flow. Love your apiary set up!
I think what I like is that you will now have drawn comb for a split, instead of foundation to build out, which takes more time than just house cleaning for the queen to get busy, mediums are ready for honey production. Still, I would add another super of foundation during the flow when they need it for more drawn comb. It's getting to a point where I have to pick up a small freezer for all my drawn frames. Not a bad problem to have.

Good to know, thank you! I've seen people share that they got more honey when running 9 frames. But I hadn't looked at it any closer, as it's not something we were going to do this year. I didn't realize it helped with uncapping too. I love learning new things.

Thank you! 💞
I love it too. It's a little tight when working the hives, but not that bad. We've got our inspection process down pretty good now. Our last inspection was pretty thorough and it only took us an hour to do all 4 hives. Such an amazing journey! 💗🐝

We have 5 supers and 8 deeps of drawn comb. It will be so much easier on the girls next year.
Needing more storage for frames is definitely a good problem to have.
