Thanks, guys. I have to keep going in there to check on Miranda, who is really bad off, but just below her is that empty cage. It's like a punch in the gut every time I see it. I wish I had another good place to put her.

Thanks so much. I know, because it's so hard when you lose them, but some are just sooooo much harder than others. This is only the second time in over six years of having chickens that I've found one dead suddenly and without any warning, but in a way, I'm glad it was quick and he went out crowing and on a nice warm day, not after some lingering illness or something like that.

Just came across this thread, so sorry Cynthia, my heart is aching for you. I have only had one rooster I was ever that close too (big ol Barred Rock) and I cried literally for days when he passed; he too had been crippled andhad been raised in the house when small. Special thoughts and hugs for you in your loss.

I have avoided this thread for a while because I didn't want to go where I knew I would cry in response. I'm sorry I wasn't brave enough to offer my condolences right away.

Zane is in the Sunny Meadow, scratching for bugs and grubs and dust-bathing in the best sunny spot.
