Our Bees

Treeclimber, do you want to cut them out and hive them? Or would you like a beekeeper to come and take them? Many will, some for a price, and fix what happens, some will just take the bees....there's a site on Beemaster on Honeybee Removal, with a map to locate beeks who will take the bees, if you're interested. They may be able to help you do that extraction yourself, if you're interested. Keep bees and harvest your own honey - you'll see what I mean about store bought!

Well as soon as I move out I am set for bee keeping. I know the equipment I need because in 3rd grade they had a bee thing going on where hive keepers brought in there suit smoker an empty hive and a comb. I tastes the honey and it was delicious. I hate store bought but I put honey on everything so I guess I have to deal with it for now.

lol I am random

My dad in the last few years (about 7) has begun 'keeping' bees...he has 8 active.

I heard on the news about honeybees dying off, due to cell phone's, this was ABC or CBS world news...about 3 or 4 months ago doing a segment on this. Have you noticed anything up your way?
Just curious.

Great information here. Thank you all so much.

It is also important to know that the free use of the DE we have in and around the coop with help to kill off the bees as well. I know if I get bees I'll have to limit the use of the DE to inside the hen house only.

That must be why our bees are ok, we took their cellphones away, they kept going over their minutes

Seriously, there are so many theories, but I think it's the 8000 pound elephant in the middle of the room and no one wants to admit it. It's chemicals poisoning them. The viruses don't help, perhaps the chemicals lower their resistance and then they succumb to the viri, I don't know. But I do think they're the canary in a coal mine for us and many don't seem to be listening.

MissPrissy, believe it or not, people use DE on their screen bottom board inserts to kill the small hive beetle - but that's all stuff you'll learn later on.

Your bee show was was on 60 Minutes and they repeated it again Sunday night. They also made an update, and one of the bee keepers bees have disappeared again. No mention of cell phones...just the newest pesticides.

I too beleive poisoning. Honey prices are going up. my mom buys me this one brand where they have part of the comb in the bottle. Thats real honey. I was watching discovery a while back and so how native people climb off the side of the mountian to get the honey. I would not have the guts to do it. they kept getting stung left and tright. they where immuned to it. there feet and hand where 3 times bigger then they should be.

anyway back on subject. I am going to buy the beekeeping for dummies book in a few weeks. I really want to give it a shot with one hive first then keep on going up
