I got a call from my wife this morning stating that all 14 of our chickens were standing on our deck staring at her through the french doors. That was the end of there free ranging.

We had said when we got them that we didn't want chicken "stuff" all over everything. They had been doing good about staying out by the barn. We have 22 acres and they still felt they had to go by the house. Oh well. Glad I built them a pretty large run.

Anyone have any suggestions on a way to keep them away from the house?

I'm sorry but that image is making me laugh.

Thankfully, our chickens can't make it to our deck and french doors for two reasons....1) the 6ft fence to keep our dogs contained, and 2) Our dog Brody. The chickens do tease Brody thru the fence, but they won't cross it.

The steps to the porch they have not found yet....

I have to say I'd get pretty paranoid if I had all those beady chicken eyeballs sizing me up from outside. They'd be thinking "hmmm... can we take her or not... if all of us gang up to open the French door and then the fridge, she'd never stand a chance...."

Get a big broom and a hose. You will need it.

Actually mine are in chicken jail until evening because they can't stop tearing out all the mulch in the flower beds and my tomato plants are too big of a temptation for the little stinkers.

That's what we were doing for a long time. I would let them out when I got home from work. They loved crusing the backyard so much and they were staying back by the barn I figured what the heck. Maybe save a little on feed. You know what they say about the best layed plans.......
