Yep, I learned from my sister who has a baby gate at the top of the steps to her door.
So - I always feed treats away from the house. They never get any reward for being on the steps to the back porch.
And handy for me - my screened porch door has a doggy door in it. So one of my border collies has the job of going out the dog door when I say chickens. Now all I have to do is say chickens and they jump down
Too bad for your chickens. Maybe if you work real hard on retraining them. Mine look so much better since I started letting them free range.

That is too funny. I have a good one for you. I do not have a deck, but have a doggie door that my beagle goes in and out. One day the beagle was all excited and iIwalked into the kitchen to see my Wyndotte sleeping in the dog beg. Could not find the camera quick enough... My dog was not happy.

So my girls are not allowed to get out of their run unless I am home or I would have a house full of chickens and all their littles messes.

I felt really bad last night when I got home. I went out there to give them their nightly treat of a couple pieces of bread and some cracked corn and they were like" So let us out already!" Gotta figure something out. Little buggers!
